Uber is launching a research hub dedicated to innovating on autonomous auto technology in Toronto. This will be Uber's third research hub and it's first outside the United States. This new hub will be led by Raquel Urtasun, a University of Toronto computer science professor that is also currently the Canada Research Chair in machine learning and computer vision. Using AI, particularly deep learning, she plans to make vehicles perceive the world around them more accurately and efficiently.
Uber's research hub will hire many researchers and engineers as well as a multimillion-dollar commitment to the Vector Institute, an artificial intelligence institute recently announced in Toronto, over the next few years.
