The Vector Institute to be launched in AI’s birthplace, Toronto
It has just been announced that the Canadian and Ontario governments plans to invest $150 million to fund an AI institute at the University of Toronto.
AI, also known as artificial intelligence, is a field of research pioneered in Canada and is a highly sought after resource from tech giants such as Apple, Google, Amazon, and more.
The new AI center, to be known as the Vector Institute, will train large numbers of masters, doctoral and postdoctoral AI scientists. It will also support research projects with the potential to grow past the laboratory to commercial success.
This new initiative by the Canadian government is part of the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence strategy and will help conduct the research and secure the talent to cement Canada’s position as a world leader in AI.
